DASPALLA: (Report– Subash Chandra Barik): The 106th birth anniversary of the esteemed playwright Ramchandra Mishra was commemorated with reverence and cultural pride in his birthplace, Daspalla, on October 12, 2025. The event, organized by the Ramchandra Smruti Sansad (Ramchandra Memorial Assembly), saw a gathering of local residents, dignitaries, and admirers to honor the late literary figure's legacy.
The day's ceremonies commenced at 9 AM at the playwright's statue. Members of the Smruti Sansad and local residents gathered to pay their respects by offering floral tributes and garlands. This was followed by a solemn Smruti Charan—a formal remembrance and recitation of his life and contributions—that set a reflective tone for the occasion.

The function was attended by a host of distinguished guests, reflecting the high regard in which Mishra is held. Attendees included the Sansad's President, Advocate Sushant Kumar Patra, and its Secretary, Gourachandra Mishra. Also present were Vice-President Advocate Sarat Chandra Behera; senior citizen and President of the Banik Mahasangh, Alekh Chandra Sahu; Professor Alekh Chandra Swain; and Gangadhar Mishra, Vice-President of the Senior Citizens' Forum.
The event also saw participation from Santosh Kumar Sahu, President of the Sambad Sahitya Ghar, Daspalla; journalists Susanta Kumar Sahu and Prasanta Kumar Sahu; legal professional Pramod Kumar Sahu; educationist Pramod Kumar Pradhan; litterateur Hadibandha Mahakhuda; and Dr. Antaryami Bhuyan.
Looking ahead, a larger state-level anniversary festival has been announced. This grand event is scheduled for October 19, 2025, at the Satabdi Bhavan in Cuttack. It will be organized jointly by the Ramchandra Smruti Sansad and the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department of the Government of Odisha, signifying official recognition of the playwright's enduring impact on the state's cultural landscape.
