Bhubaneswar: In a powerful address that set the tone for the upcoming Nuapada by-election, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made a significant pledge on Thursday, vowing to take personal responsibility for transforming the district's fortunes. Speaking at a large "Bijay Sankalp Samabesh" (Victory Resolution Rally) in Nuapada, CM Majhi positioned the bypoll as a crucial step in accelerating the region's development under the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) leadership.

A Personal Pledge for Progress

Chief Minister Majhi directly addressed the community, reiterating a previous commitment to oversee Nuapada's development himself. He framed this as a mission to lift the district from its status as one of the state's most backward regions and elevate it into a model of progress. “I will personally take responsibility for the district’s development,” Majhi declared to the gathered crowd, signaling a hands-on approach from the state's highest office.
To substantiate this promise, the Chief Minister detailed substantial financial investments. He announced that he recently inaugurated and initiated groundwork for development projects with a total value exceeding Rs 1,101 crore, all dedicated solely to Nuapada district. Expanding on this, he noted that over the past 16 months, the state government has committed projects worth a remarkable Rs 1,400 crore to the area, demonstrating a sustained focus on its growth.

Contrasting Governance and Fulfilled Promises

The Chief Minister drew a sharp contrast between the current BJP government and the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) administration. He asserted that the BJP has a proven track record of keeping its word to the people. As clear evidence, he reminded the audience of two key actions taken immediately after the party assumed power.
“Within just 24 minutes of forming the government,” Majhi stated, “we took two landmark decisions. We approved the implementation of the Subhadra scheme and increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy to Rs 3,100 per quintal under our Samrudh Krushak Yojana.” This narrative of swift action aimed to bolster his party’s image as a trustworthy entity that delivers on its electoral pledges.

The Bypoll Context and Political Contest

The by-election in Nuapada became necessary following the sudden passing of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8. The BJP has fielded Jay Dholakia, the son of the late legislator, as its candidate. Chief Minister Majhi expressed confidence that Jay Dholakia would work tirelessly to complete the unfinished work of his father, thereby carrying forward a legacy of service to the constituency.
In his analysis of the electoral landscape, CM Majhi dismissed the possibility of a tight three-way race. He confidently stated that the real contest in the Nuapada bypoll is squarely between the BJP and the Congress party, effectively downplaying the challenge from the former ruling BJD.

A Call to Action for Party Workers

Concluding his speech on a rallying note, the Chief Minister urged local BJP workers and leaders to dedicate themselves completely to securing a victory in the upcoming by-election. He emphasized that a win for the party candidate is essential to ensure the seamless continuation of the development momentum initiated by the "double-engine government"—a term referring to the same party being in power at both the state and central levels.
The rally also witnessed a significant show of political strength, with several workers and leaders from both the BJD and the Congress party formally switching their allegiance to the BJP during the event. This defection is seen as a boost for the BJP's campaign and an indicator of shifting political loyalties in the region ahead of the critical by-election.
