Daspalla, Odisha: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): In a vibrant celebration of Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival Week), the serene campus of Buguda Government Girls' High School (Buguda Kanyashram) came alive today with a large-scale tree plantation drive. The event, organized by the Tribal Welfare Department and supported by the Banigochha Wildlife Range (West), witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 300 resident students.
Marking a significant commitment to environmental conservation, each participating student pledged not only to plant a sapling but also to nurture it personally. This collective effort resulted in the successful plantation of hundreds of trees, significantly boosting the campus greenery and contributing to local ecological restoration.
The mega event garnered strong support from key forest officials. Sansar Bargiya, the Banigochha Wildlife Range Officer (West), graced the occasion as the chief guest. He actively oversaw the proceedings alongside dedicated frontline forest personnel. The drive was efficiently coordinated under the direct supervision of Buguda Section Forester Raj Kumar Satpathy. He received crucial support from Forest Guard Deepak Ranjan Acharya, Ajay Kumar Swain, Pushpalata Pradhan, Forest Guard Madhusmita Nayak, and Forest Guard Reena Nayak. Namita Swain, the Headmistress of Buguda Kanyashram, played a pivotal role in mobilizing the students and ensuring the event's success within the school premises. Staff from the entire Buguda Forest Section, including watchers and wildlife crime prevention personnel, actively contributed.
"This mass plantation by our young students is inspiring," stated Range Officer Sansar Bargiya. "It fosters environmental responsibility from a young age and directly contributes to our goal of increasing green cover. The commitment to care for the saplings is equally commendable."
The Buguda Kanyashram tree plantation stands as a powerful testament to the role of youth and community collaboration in building a greener, more sustainable future for Odisha. The sight of hundreds of students planting and pledging to care for trees offers genuine hope for the region's environmental health.
