New Delhi, July 8, 2025: A nationwide Bharat Bandh called for Wednesday, July 9, 2025, by a coalition of farmer unions, trade organizations, and opposition parties is set to disrupt normal life across several states. The strike aims to protest against the central government’s policies, including the Agnipath military recruitment scheme, rising unemployment, inflation, and agricultural reforms.
Bharat Bandh July 9: School Closures, Services Affected Today

Key Services Impacted

1. Educational Institutions:

Multiple state governments have announced precautionary closures of schools and colleges on Wednesday. Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and parts of Uttar Pradesh will keep educational institutions shut. Parents are advised to confirm status locally as some private schools may operate.

2. Transport Disruptions:

Major road and rail services face potential blockades. State transport buses may run limited routes, while auto-rickshaws and taxis could stay off roads in protest hubs. Commuters should expect delays on highways linking Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

3. Banking & Government Offices:

Public sector banks may operate with skeletal staff as employee unions join the strike. Government offices in affected regions could see reduced attendance, delaying public services.

4.Essential Services:

Emergency facilities like hospitals, pharmacies, and fire departments will function normally. However, supply chains for milk, vegetables, and fuel might face temporary hiccups.

Why the Bandh?

Over 200 farmer groups and trade unions demand the government:
  • Scrap the Agnipath recruitment scheme
  • Guarantee Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all crops
  • Provide unemployment allowances and control inflation
  • Withdraw recent labor reforms
“This bandh exposes public anger against anti-people policies,” said Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader Balbir Singh Rajewal.

States on High Alert

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Odisha, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu anticipate significant disruptions. Security forces are deployed to prevent violence, though organizers insist protests will be peaceful.
