Kantabanji: Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag has extended his full support to the Indian Army’s recent “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan and praised the Indian Air Force for its successful execution. In a show of solidarity with the armed forces, Bag announced the donation of his three months’ salary to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The announcement was made during a special event held at the local Public Works Department (PWD) Dak Bungalow.

Bag lauded the Indian military’s efforts in “Operation Sindoor,” emphasizing the bravery and strategic success of the armed forces. “The success of Operation Sindoor is a matter of pride for every Indian. Our soldiers have shown exceptional courage, and I am donating three months of my salary as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices,” he said. The event was attended by local officials, including Tehsildar Biswanath Khalko, and BJP leader Shivaji Mahanty.

Last year, he made headlines by defeating the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and then-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the Kantabanji assembly elections. While Patnaik won from Hinjili, he lost to Bag in Kantabanji by a margin of 16,321 votes.  
Bag secured 90,590 votes, while Patnaik received 74,273—a surprising upset given Patnaik’s long-standing dominance in Odisha politics. The election result was seen as a major shift in the state’s political landscape, signaling growing support for the BJP in regions traditionally loyal to the BJD.
