Daspalla: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): A violent storm wreaked havoc in the small village of Kamuti Panga under the Banigochha Panchayat of Dasapalla block in Nayagarh district, leaving a poor tribal family homeless and in desperate need of assistance. The fierce winds and heavy rain, which struck yesterday afternoon, destroyed everything in their path within moments, reducing the modest home of Narendra Malik and his family to rubble.
Devastating Storm Leaves Tribal Family Homeless in Nayagarh District

Narendra, a member of the tribal community, lives in extreme poverty with his family of five. Their home, a fragile structure made of tin and thatch, was no match for the fury of the storm. The winds ripped through the roof and walls, leaving the family exposed to the open sky. Inside, the floodwaters rose knee-deep, making it impossible for them to cook or take shelter. As a result, the family has been without food for over 24 hours, forced to endure the harsh conditions with no relief in sight.
What is even more distressing is the apparent lack of response from local authorities. Despite the dire situation, no government officials—whether from the Revenue Inspector’s office, the block administration, or the Panchayat—have visited the family to assess the damage or provide immediate relief. The absence of aid has left the Maliks struggling to survive without basic necessities.
Given the urgency of the situation, there is an immediate need for intervention. The family requires temporary shelter, such as plastic sheets or tarpaulin, to protect them from further exposure to the elements. Additionally, they must be provided with a permanent, concrete house under government rehabilitation schemes to ensure their long-term safety and stability.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of marginalized communities during natural disasters and underscores the need for swift administrative action. Authorities must act without delay to assist the Malik family and prevent further suffering. Immediate relief measures, including food, shelter, and financial aid, should be prioritised to help them rebuild their lives.
The plight of Narendra Malik’s family is a stark reminder of how natural calamities disproportionately affect the poor. It is the responsibility of the government and local administration to ensure that no family is left without support in times of crisis. Urgent steps must be taken to provide them with the help they desperately need.
