Odisha Government Approves New Battalion for Industrial Security Force

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to strengthen industrial security in the state by adding another battalion to the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF). Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the proposal on Saturday, April 20, 2025, marking a significant step in enhancing security for industrial zones.
Currently, Odisha has one OISF battalion with 1,807 personnel. The new battalion will add 1,040 more posts, bringing the total strength of the force to 2,847. This expansion comes in response to the growing industrial activities across the state, requiring better law and order management in industrial hubs.

A senior police officer explained that the decision was made to ensure safety and security in key industrial areas.
"With increasing industrial development, there is a greater need for a strong security presence. The additional battalion will help maintain peace and protect businesses," the officer said.
The move aligns with Chief Minister Majhi’s recent discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where he mentioned plans to recruit 3,000 security personnel for the OISF. The expansion reflects the state government’s commitment to creating a safe environment for industries, which play a crucial role in Odisha’s economic growth.
Industrial security forces like the OISF are essential for preventing theft, vandalism, and other disruptions in factories, mining sites, and other industrial establishments. By increasing the workforce, the government aims to provide better protection for both businesses and workers.
The approval of the new battalion is expected to boost investor confidence, as industries often consider security measures before setting up operations. With more personnel deployed, the OISF will be better equipped to handle emergencies and ensure smooth industrial operations across the state.
This decision highlights the government’s focus on balancing industrial growth with safety, ensuring that Odisha remains an attractive destination for businesses while maintaining law and order. Further details on recruitment and deployment are likely to be announced soon.
