Bhubaneswar: The intense summer heat in Odisha has been temporarily alleviated as the state experiences widespread Kalbaisakhi rains. Over the past few days, several regions have witnessed thunderstorms, light showers, and even hailstorms, providing much-needed respite from the scorching temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that these weather conditions will persist until April 25, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms expected across multiple districts. 
The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for 13 districts, warning of possible thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and hail. The affected districts include Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada. According to weather experts, wind speeds may reach 30-40 km/h, with gusts of up to 50 km/h in some areas. Residents have been advised to stay cautious, as heavy rains and gusty winds could lead to localized disruptions, including damage to temporary structures and uprooting of trees. 
The IMD has stated that southern Odisha will continue to experience the Kalbaisakhi effect in the coming days, while northern districts may see a gradual reduction in rainfall activity after April 25. The state government has directed disaster response teams to remain on standby in case of emergencies.
