Destructive Storm Wreaks Havoc in Bam Village, Daspalla

Daspalla: (Reported by Subas Chandra Barik): A fierce storm, likened to the wrath of Kala Baishakhi (a destructive seasonal storm), has left Bam village under Dasapalla block’s Chadeyapalli area in ruins. The storm, accompanied by heavy rain, thunder, and violent winds, struck on the afternoon of the 19th, with wind speeds reaching 60-90 km/h and gusts exceeding 100 km/h.

Homes have been reduced to rubble, ancient trees uprooted, and vast stretches of natural forests completely destroyed. The storm also severely damaged the houses of Odisha’s renowned literary figures—Hadibandhu Mahakhud, Jadumani Mahakhud, and Ratnakar Mahakhud. A massive fallen tree crushed Hadibandhu Mahakhud’s residence, leaving it in complete ruins.
Locals claim they have never witnessed such a devastating storm in their lifetime. The terrifying one-hour rampage was so intense that rooftops were seen flying in the sky—a sight beyond belief unless seen firsthand.
With electricity poles snapped, power restoration may take up to three days, raising concerns among residents. The affected villagers are urgently demanding government assistance for recovery.
