Daspalla Lankapodi Yatra 2025 - The Grand Gandabadha Ritual

Daspalla: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): The historic and renowned open-air theater of India, Daspalla, witnessed the grand spectacle of Gandabadha as part of the ancient Lankapodi Yatra. According to the Suryavanshi tradition, after marriage, the crown prince and other royals perform Gandabadha (a symbolic hunting ritual) to display their valor in honor of their ancestors. Keeping this tradition alive, Lord Shri Ram, along with his brothers and a four-fold army, embarked on a majestic procession into the forest for the ritual.

The event took place at the Shrungaberpur Manch (Netaji Maidan) in Durgabazar, about 2 kilometers from the main stage. The procession was a mesmerising sight, featuring decorated chariots, elephants, horses, camels, folk dances like Budha-Budhi Nacha (old couple dance), Bagha Khela (tiger dance), giant floral structures, and over a hundred drummers playing in unison. The vibrant parade, accompanied by music, fireworks, and lights, captivated the audience.
Thousands of devotees from all sections of society voluntarily participated in this grand procession, which stretched over two kilometers. During the enactment, Lord Ram, while hunting, gets separated from his army and befriends Guhaka, the Shabara king. Immersed in the hospitality and traditional dances of the Shabara tribe, the divine reunion with his army later marks the return to Ayodhya.
Today’s performance was exceptionally captivating, drawing over ten thousand devotees. The cultural and religious fervor of the event left a lasting impression on all attendees.
