Nayagarh: In anticipation of the approaching cyclone Dana, Nayagarh district administration, led by Collector Akshay Sunil Agrawal (IAS), convened a crucial virtual meeting at 2 PM today to ensure preparedness for the potential storm. The meeting focused on safeguarding the lives and property of Nayagarh residents before, during, and after the cyclone. This proactive approach highlights the district’s commitment to disaster readiness and public safety.
Ensuring Cyclone Preparedness
The Collector, Mr. Agrawal, emphasized the importance of a coordinated response from all departments during the meeting. He advised Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Dillip Kumar Bal to oversee departmental duties, ensuring clarity on their respective roles during the cyclone. The ADM addressed various sectors, instructing them on key actions before, during, and after the cyclone to minimize risks and ensure swift recovery.
Cyclone Shelters & Evacuation Plans:
One of the primary discussions involved the current condition of cyclone shelters in the district. The ADM, along with other officials, assessed the readiness of these shelters. The administration stressed the importance of relocating residents from cyclone-prone areas to safer locations, particularly the designated cyclone shelters. Should additional space be needed, temporary shelters will be set up in various schools, as directed by the District Education Officer and Group Development Officers.
Relief Measures and Essential Services
Collector Agrawal further inquired about the availability of emergency supplies like polythene sheets in Tehsil offices, which would be crucial for immediate relief distribution post-cyclone. Additionally, instructions were given to ensure the swift restoration of vital services, including roads, electricity, and telecommunication networks, once the cyclone passes. Each relevant department was tasked with executing repairs and reinstating these services as quickly as possible to aid in recovery efforts.
Follow-Up Meetings for Cyclone Readiness
The district administration remains vigilant, holding follow-up meetings to discuss further developments. At 5 PM, another meeting was conducted with officials from various departments to ensure ongoing alertness and readiness. On October 29, at 7:30 AM, a mini-marathon will be held from Jagannath Temple, passing through Petrol Tanki and Post Office, returning to the starting point. The event will culminate in a meeting at the Collector’s Goodwill Hall at 9 AM, which will focus on enhancing disaster management strategies in the district.
