Sujeet Kumar Expelled from BJD, Set to Join BJP; Resignation Accepted by Vice-President

Bhubaneswar: In a significant political development, Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar has been expelled from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. This expulsion comes amid allegations of "anti-party activities" against Kumar.

The BJD announced Kumar's expulsion on Friday, marking a notable shift in the political landscape. Kumar, who has been a prominent member of the BJD, is expected to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) later in the day. This move is likely to have implications for both the BJD and BJP, as political dynamics in the region could shift.

Following his expulsion, Sujeet Kumar submitted his resignation to Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Vice-President, who also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, has accepted Kumar's resignation from the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect. The acceptance was in line with Article 101(3)(b) of the Indian Constitution, which governs the resignation of members from the council of states.

As Kumar prepares to join the BJP, political observers will be keenly watching how this development influences the forthcoming political scenarios in Odisha and beyond.
