Bhubaneswar: The renowned sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has recently stirred public interest by demanding a CBI investigation into the mysterious Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath Temple in Puri. This development came to light after a meeting of the Shrimandir Management Committee on Monday, where various issues concerning the temple's management were discussed, including the state of the Ratna Bhandar, which is the temple's treasure vault.
The Ratna Bhandar is known to house valuable gems, gold, and other precious items donated by devotees over centuries. However, the current condition of the treasure vault has become a matter of public concern. According to reports, the door to the inner Ratna Bhandar is secured with three locks. Out of these, only one lock is sealed, while the other two are not. This unusual situation has led to growing suspicion and questions among the devotees and the general public.
Sudarshan Pattnaik, a member of the Shrimandir Management Committee, voiced these concerns during the meeting. He emphasized the need for transparency and suggested that a CBI investigation would be the most effective way to address these doubts and ensure the integrity of the temple’s treasures. He believes that a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would reveal crucial details such as the current state of the Ratna Bhandar, its contents, and the procedures followed in its maintenance and security.
During the meeting, discussions also focused on employing modern professional techniques for inspecting and repairing the Ratna Bhandar. The committee considered relocating old chests and cupboards as part of the effort to secure and preserve the valuable items stored within the vault. These steps are seen as necessary to protect the treasures and maintain the sanctity of the temple.
Various media outlets have already begun reporting on the condition of the inner Ratna Bhandar, which has further fueled public curiosity and concern. Many devotees are eager to know more about the treasures kept in the vault and whether they are being properly taken care of. The lack of clear information and the presence of unsealed locks have only added to the speculation and doubts.
Sudarshan Pattnaik's demand for a CBI investigation is seen as a call for accountability and transparency. He argued that only a detailed investigation by a reputed agency like the CBI could uncover the complete truth about the Ratna Bhandar. Such an investigation would also help in dispelling any rumors and providing clear answers to the public.
Pattnaik pointed out that knowing the history and current status of the Ratna Bhandar is important not just for the management committee but also for the millions of devotees who revere the Jagannath Temple. Information about when the Ratna Bhandar was last opened, how it has been maintained over the years, and the exact inventory of the treasures inside are all vital pieces of information that should rightfully be available to the public.
The call for a CBI probe reflects a broader demand for transparency in the management of temple affairs, ensuring that the sacred treasures are well-protected and preserved for future generations. It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to this demand and whether they will order a CBI investigation to clear the air and address the concerns of the devotees.
