The Cuttack Municipal Corporation, also known as the CMC, spends a large amount of money on door-to-door garbage collection every month. The city leaders allocate these funds to keep the streets clean. Despite this large budget, waste continues to gather on the roads. People can see big heaps of garbage in many important areas. The route from Badambadi to Ranihat has the most visible waste problems. The uncollected garbage stays on the streets for many days. This situation creates a very unhealthy environment for all the residents. 
The sanitation system in the city is not working well right now. Local people say the garbage collection vans do not visit their neighborhoods on a regular schedule. Many van drivers completely skip narrow lanes and small streets. Because the vans do not arrive, some residents throw their daily household waste directly onto the public roads. People blame both the private waste collection contractors and the general public for this ongoing issue. They also point out that the CMC does not monitor the cleaning agencies properly. When the city does not check the daily work of these agencies, the contractors often ignore their duties. The lack of supervision makes the problem worse every single week.
