Bhubaneswar, May 15, 2026 (Priya Ranjan Nayak): The Odisha Fire and Emergency Services completed a massive statewide rescue effort yesterday. Over a single 24-hour period, brave crews responded to 177 different emergency calls. The State Command Centre in Bhubaneswar released these official numbers this morning.
The report covers the busy period between 6:00 AM on May 14 and 6:00 AM on May 15. First responders worked around the clock to keep communities safe. During this short time, emergency teams successfully saved 15 people and 63 animals from dangerous situations.
Thankfully, the state reported zero forest fires during this time. Even better, firefighters brought every blaze under control without anyone losing their life. The quick response meant nobody suffered injuries in any of the fire incidents.
Water rescue teams also faced difficult challenges. They responded to seven different water emergencies. Rescuers pulled three people from the water alive. Sadly, they also recovered four people who did not survive the water incidents. Additionally, crews rescued two more people from other types of dangerous emergencies.
Beyond direct rescues, the crews also kept the state moving. They carried out 60 different operations to cut down fallen trees and clear blocked roads. The teams did not receive any calls to pump out floodwater on this day.

Road and Water Rescues
The majority of the daily workload involved 141 Special Service calls. These missions often require quick thinking and heavy rescue equipment. Emergency crews attended nine serious road accidents.
